Old photo pre-1920 above shows how little has changed compared to above right- 2004.
However, the street has come up with repaving, and the porch supports have been replaced with large pressure treated support pilings, and the deck has been replaced.
Proposed: photo at right is a doctored version of the one above. It shows how we can move a lower porch post to one side, so it lines up with existing support below. Then add another post, on top of existing support below. This allows raising (as shown) or cutting back the porch in order to gain access to the double doors and three bay windows in the basement. Moving the second floor post to line up with post below may or may not be good for support and aesthetic reasons.
THEN- The Boyce Store- pre-1921
NOW- present-day (2004) porch of Mad RIver Masonic Lodge
South steps- with right side sleeps sinking. Note bottom step barely visible, buried by sidewalk gravel.
See how sidewalk and street have risen
Looking south, note current pottery shop elevation. Note steps and porch supports
Looking north, with Methodist and Unitarian steeples up the street. Note old steps extend beyond porch
No library, no sidewalk across street from lodge.
